Abstract
The role of exercise and physical activity as a strategy that has the potential to help achieve health, social and economic goals is very important. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between socio-economic conditions and motivation to participate in sports activities for women aged 25 to 35 years in Tehran.
In line with the purpose of this study, 100 women from District 3 of Tehran who had the necessary conditions to enter the study were purposefully selected. Questionnaires of socio-economic status of power (2013) and motivation to participate in sports activities of Hong et al. (2) were used.Descriptive and inferential statistics including Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data.
The results showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between socio-economic conditions and motivation for sports participation and among socio-economic components, income. Economic class and education have a direct and significant relationship with motivation to participate in sports activities, while between housing status and participation motivation. No significant relationship was observed in sports activities (r = 0.076, p = 0.153). The results of multiple regression showed that education and income are the most important predictors of participation in women's sports activities.
According to the findings, it seems that the motivation of sports participation is affected by the socio-economic situation, so it is appropriate to plan for women's sports according to their socio-economic status.
