The role of gender in perfectionism, mental toughness and people's reaction to failure in athletes of Zanjan city

Abstract
Objective: The role of gender in perfectionism, mental toughness and people's reaction to failure in athletes of Zanjan city.

Methods: The statistical population includes 315 athletes selected from a population of 8,000 people by cluster random sampling. The variable measurement tools include sports multidimensional perfectionism (Gatvales et al. 2010), reactivity to emotional experiences questionnaire (Matau and Nock 2008) and sports mental toughness questionnaire. (2010) was. After collecting the questionnaires, the data were analyzed by analysis of variance with a confidence level of 0.95 and using SPSS software.

Results: The results showed that there is a significant difference between women and men in the three components of perfectionism, which include personal standards, giving too much importance to mistakes, and perception of parental pressure (P<0.05) and the level of perfectionism in men is higher than in women. . Also, there is no significant difference between men and women in the components of mental toughness and emotional reaction to failure (P<0.05).

Conclusion: Gender in the athletes of Zanjan city has only caused a difference in their perfectionism, and there is no difference between male and female athletes in the components of mental toughness and emotional reaction to failure. In a general conclusion, it can be said that by participating in sports, the environment of sports and competition can reduce and moderate the role of gender in some psychological components and variables.
