Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of the effect of hope therapy training and Hatha Yoga exercises on the level of depression in adolescent’s girls with cancer. The method of the present study was semi-experimental (pre-test-post-test) using two experimental groups and a control group. For this purpose, the statistical population of this research was all girl adolescents aged 12 to 18 years old with cancer, who from 1400-1401 referred to hospitals and centers related to cancer treatment in Tabriz, including Valiasr, Shams, Shahriar, Imam Ali (a.s.), Shahid Mohlati and Aali Nasb and they were diagnosed with depression disorder by the clinical psychologist of those centers. From the studied population, 45 people were selected as available and then randomly replaced in 3 groups of 15 people (hope therapy, Hatha yoga exercises and control group). Then, experimental group 1 received hope therapy (8 sessions; one 90-minute session per week) and experimental group 2 received Hatha yoga exercises (12 weeks: two 45-minute sessions per week), and the control group did not receive training. All the subjects filled the Beck Depression Questionnaire (short form) before and after the training. Analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data. The results showed that hope therapy and Hatha yoga exercises have a significant positive effect on reducing the depression of adolescent girls with cancer. However, the effect of hope therapy on reducing the depression of adolescent girls with cancer is significantly greater than that of Hatha Yoga.
