Abstract
The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the relationship between mental skills (mental imagery) and emotional intelligence with sports injury (ankle) in a selected team of male and female gymnasts in Qom province. The current research is applied in terms of purpose and quantitative in terms of approach. The method used in the current research is descriptive-survey of correlation type. The statistical population of this research included gymnastic athletes of Qom province, and the statistical sample was 120 male and female athletes in 1402-403, who were selected in an accessible and targeted manner. The data collection tool was Hall et al.'s (1998) mental imagery questionnaire and Lee et al.'s (2014) emotional intelligence questionnaire. For the statistical analysis of the data, multiple correlation and linear regression were used and the data were analyzed with SPSS version 27 software. The results of the research showed that mental skills (mental imaging) and emotional intelligence have a significant relationship with ankle sports injury, and the intensity of this correlation is -0.40 for the mental imaging variable and -0.27 for the emotional intelligence variable. The training of mental skills, especially mental imagery and emotional intelligence, has a significant effect on reducing the sports injuries of gymnasts. It is suggested that gymnastics coaches improve the self-confidence of their athletes with mental imagery and emotional intelligence in order to reduce the sports injuries of their athletes.
