Abstract
The aim of the present study was to determine the effectiveness of mental imagery on improvementmental skills and skill performance of adolescenttaekwondo girls in Tabriz, in which a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group was used. The statistical population of the present study consisted of all adolescenttaekwondo girls living in Tabriz in 1404. After obtaining the necessary permission to select a sample from the available sampling method, 30 people were selected. To determine the effectiveness, Stupa's mental imagery training (2009) was used, which was implemented in a group for 8 30-minute sessions. To measure mental skills, the Ottawa Mental Skills Questionnaire (2001) was used as a pre-test and to measure skill performance, the Charbonneau Sports Performance Questionnaire (2001) was used as a post-test after completing the training. Finally, after collecting the data, descriptive statistics methods of mean and standard deviation and inferential statistics of univariate analysis of covariance test were used. The significance level in all tests was considered to be 0.05. The findings showed that there was a significant difference between the control and experimental groups in both variables of mental skills (p<0.001) and skill performance (p<0.001). According to the results obtained from this study, mental imagery can help improvethe mental skills and skill performance of adolescentgirls who practice taekwondo.
