The effect of PETTLEP mental imagery with the moderating role of positive psychology on the performance of beginner basketball players

Abstract
The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of mental imagery of the Petlap with the moderating role of positive psychology on the performance of novice basketball players. This research is of an applied type and a semi-experimental method, which is quantitative in terms of data type and field in terms of data collection and contains a pre-test-post-test research design. The statistical population of the study was novice male basketball players in Tabriz. 60 people who had the ability to perform mental imagery were selected and, according to their mental imagery ability, were homogeneously divided into 4 groups (control group, mental imagery group, positive psychology group, and mental imagery group with positive psychology). Multivariate analysis of covariance and Bonferroni post-test were used to analyze the data in SPSS23 software at a significance level of 0.05. The results of the study showed that PETLAP mental imagery (p=0.001), positive psychology (p=0.001), and PETLAP mental imagery combined with positive psychology (p=0.001) had a positive and significant effect on the performance of novice basketball players, and the greatest improvement in the performance of novice basketball players was achieved in the mental imagery combined with positive psychology group (p<0.05).
